Day 4: Chef Bogdan Galazka, the man who inspired our challenge, details the Teutonic Order's opulent meals, Malbork Castle's Gothic Cafe, and his favorite dessert

The Battle Castle crew was filming at Malbork when we met Bogdan Galazka, chef at the Gothic Cafe, a restaurant located inside the castle. The Teutonic Knights that built and lived in the castle, known as Marienburg in the Middle Ages, inspired the restaurant's menu - and an incredible cookbook, titled "The Cuisine of the Teutonic Grand Masters in Malbork Castle", which, in turn inspired Battle Castle's medieval soup challenge.

I had a chance to sit down with Galazka and talk about the history behind the food:

Medieval ingredients: a list to die for

The life of a knight: heavy metal opulence

Veggies, almond milk, and an invitation to #gomedieval

Oh, and about that hat ...

Though three medieval soup recipes inspired by Galazka and the Teutonic Knights are being given away by Battle Castle - look at the top of the post to find out how to get yours - Galazka's cookbook contains some 50 dishes ... everything from a "Knight's Pot" to "Royal Chicken with Paper Decorations and Gold Flake" - even his favorite dessert: "Rice Pudding with Almond Milk and Carmelized Voilet Petals".

I had a great time listening to Galazka ... and eating the soups.  I hope you do too.
